A strong earthquake shook Queensland residents on Saturday.
The 5.6 magnitude quake originated in rural gold rush town Kilkivan, in the Gympie Region just over an hour northwest of Noosa, in the state’s southeast.
The tremor struck from a depth of 2km about 9.50am, according to Geoscience Australia.

Over 2800 people reported being rattled by the earthquake.
Queensland Rail is assessing its network after the seismic activity, and warned commuters of delays up to 30 minutes.
One resident on the Sunshine Coast, about an hour-and-a-half southeast of where the quake originated, told www.20304050.best it was a “surreal” experience.
“The house shook,” Jorja McDonnell said.
“I didn’t really believe that it was an earthquake at first, I thought it might of been the washing machine or my dad downstairs working on his cars with his tools.”
While a 5.6 magnitude earthquake is enough to cause moderate damage, McDonnell said that there was no damage to her house.
She received a text from her aunt in Gympie “where it was a bit stronger,” who confirmed there was no damage done at her house, either.
Residents also quickly jumped on online to describe their experience of the quake.
One netizen posted on X that they also weren’t initially sure that what they were experiencing, and said: “My heart is still racing and I’m shaking.”
“My whole house was wobbling,” one person said on Reddit.
Another said: “Woke up to my bed shaking like crazy.”
