From food to appliances, selling imperfect items at a discounted rate has been commonplace for years now.
But rarely do pre-loved, slightly-damaged fashion pieces have a home in our fast-moving, endlessly-evolving trend-led world.
Until now. This week, cult homegrown online business The Iconic has debuted ‘Rescued’, a concept and marketplace to sell damaged clothing at less than half the retail price.

Think repaired Camilla and Marc, as well as stunning pieces by the likes of Rebecca Vallance, Reformation, By Johnny and more.

The ‘Rescued’ category includes items that have been identified in The Iconic’s warehouse with minor imperfections that need some care.
With the introduction of the new process, eligible pieces will be intercepted by the warehouse team and sent to Australian startup Revibe to be expertly cleaned and repaired, ready for sale on The Iconic at a lower price point.
“Driving meaningful change through practical, customer-focused solutions is an important element of supporting the transition towards a circular fashion system in Australia,” The Iconic’s Chief Commercial & Sustainability Officer Gayle Burchell said in a statement.
“The launch of Rescued, in collaboration with innovative Australian start-ups Revibe and Re/lax Remade, builds on our Pre-Loved ranges and RCYCL’s services and marks another important progressive step.
“We’ll be learning with our customers and brands, testing solutions that resonate, and importantly helping to solve industry challenges. We intend to evolve this offering over time to reflect these learnings.”

The pilot program, which has been unveiled this week, includes the likes of repaired North Face jackets ($190) and Shona Joy maxi dresses for just $150.
There are also a couple of minorly-damaged Rebecca Vallance party dresses, which have been repaired so as to give them another lease of life.
My particular favourite is a pair of Camilla and Marc white jeans, which cost just $120 on ‘Rescued’ by The Iconic.
