When it comes to prams, there is one brand that reigns supreme.
Beloved by celebrities, parenting experts and mums and dads alike since it was founded in Denmark in 1996, Bugaboo has carved out a corner of the crowded parenting market for viral, use-everywhere buys that carry you through those tricky early years.
So when the brand says it’s releasing a new pram, we sit up and take note.

Offered the opportunity to trial the new Butterfly 2 Travel Stroller ($729) ahead of its official launch date, I jumped at the chance, and have been religiously putting the stroller through its paces for the past month with two young children.
Here’s what I thought.

Differences between Bugaboo Butterfly 2 and Butterfly 1

First up, it’s important to know the difference between the new Butterfly 2 and the Butterfly 1, which many parents will already own and love.
For this, it’s important to look at all elements of the design.
At just 7.3kg, the Butterfly 2 is Bugaboo’s lightest stroller yet. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
This pram can store up to 8kg in its basket and back pocket, and like the 1, it’s suitable for newborn babies right the way up to 48 months.
New features include a new back-seat pocket for easy-access essentials like your phone, keys, baby wipes and snacks.

It also has “bigger wheels for smoother city strolls”.
While the Butterfly 1’s footrest was only adjustable with two hands, the Butterfly 2’s is adjustable with one.
It also has a new and upgraded sun canopy with a re-designed peekaboo window — all the better for keeping an eye on your precious cargo while ensuring sun protection.
Crucially, this is also Bugaboo’s lowest CO2 footprint ever.
Some 37 per cent lower than the original, it’s been made with 60 per cent recycled aluminium and bio-based plastics.
All of this, and it still has the same one-handed fold that is easy to pop up, down and put in overhead cabins on planes.
Best Picks editor trials

After testing out the Bugaboo Butterfly 2 for the best part of a month, I can safely say it’s the pram I am turning to time and again (and I have a couple of choices).
Almost unbelievably lightweight, I love how I can just pick it up with one arm and put it in the boot of the car, while clutching my one-year-old in the other.
Not only this, but I love how small it folds up. With two kids, it often feels like we’re transporting the kitchen sink to even go down to the beach or the park.
But this stroller makes all of that feel like child’s play. Both my toddler and baby can’t get enough of it, and we’re regularly settling disputes as to who should go in it.
One of my favourite features of this buggy is how smooth a ride it is.
Travel prams I’ve owned or tested in the past are often compromised on rough or rocky terrain.
But this one handles most of the varying standards of ground around our home with ease. Whether we’re walking to and from daycare or down to the beach, it’s easy to push both children.
Finally, I’ve got to reference the basket — perfect for last-minute supermarket trips when you just pop in for a carton of milk and come out with all sorts.
The verdict

Overall, I think this pram is perfect for families looking for a high-performing travel pram they can use both at home and abroad.
If you’re someone whose child loves a nap on the go, this pram is also surprisingly useful.
With a better recline than the Butterfly 1, we found ourselves regularly giving our youngest her morning nap in the stroller.
It can also almost replace a main pram, the basket is that big.
Awarded the prestigious Red Dot: Best of the Best Design Award 2025, the Butterfly 2 blends Dutch design excellence with practical features tailored to modern Australian lifestyles.
