With late snowfall in Australia, New Zealand’s season still in full swing, and Europe’s ski calendar around the corner, winter getaways are high on the agenda.
According to Tourism Research Australia, Australians spend $3.6 billion every year on alpine holidays, making it one of the most sought-after seasonal escapes.
But the real challenge isn’t always choosing where to go, it’s working out how to source the right gear without spending weekends hopping between the shops.

For 27-year-old mum of two, Clare Ferrier, the solution came in the form of Temu, the online marketplace that has fast become a go-to for affordable lifestyle finds.
Preparing for a family trip to Wanaka on New Zealand’s South Island, she needed functional ski wear that could withstand long days on the mountain, while still looking polished for evenings in town.

“I wanted pieces that would work across the whole trip,” Ferrier tells Best Picks.
“Something that could handle the slopes but also transition into a nice dinner or après-ski drinks.”
Scrolling through Temu’s endless listings, she discovered a range of ski jackets, trousers, goggles, and cosy knitwear, all backed by detailed reviews and size guides that made choosing easy.
She clicked ‘add to cart’ on a faux-fur coat, a 3-in-1 ski jacket, thermal layers, goggles, and a colour-block sweater.
Everything arrived on time, packed neatly and, most importantly, lived up to the online promise.
“I’ve always wanted ski gear that doesn’t just look the part but actually performs when you’re out there,” she explained.

“The pants had adjustable straps, so they fit perfectly, and the jacket had a removable fleece lining, which was a lifesaver when the sun came out.
“I didn’t have to think about my comfort once; I just enjoyed the snow.”
On the mountain, the pieces were delivered, but it was off the slopes where Temu surprised her most.
The faux-fur coat quickly became her hero piece, working just as well for casual strolls as it did for dinners. “It’s not just warm, it feels refined,” Ferrier said.
“I’ll wear this everywhere. Two of my girlfriends have already asked me for the link.”

Her story reflects a growing trend in how Australians are shopping for travel: online, streamlined, and budget-friendly.
The rise of marketplaces like Temu means ski holidays, once thought of as expensive, high-maintenance trips, are now more accessible for families who want to pack light but still look good.
From ski-ready functionality to après-ski charm, Ferrier’s shopping hack shows how the right online picks can take the stress out of trip planning and leave more time for what really matters: enjoying the holiday.
