Superintendent Barry Vincent said Momani suffered a single gunshot wound and managed to get out of the car in an attempt to seek help from nearby residents.
He received no help before paramedics arrived and took him to Westmead Hospital, where he later died.
Footage from the scene shows the car’s passenger-side window shattered.

The driver of the car was not injured and is assisting police with their investigation.
A burnt-out Toyota SUV was later found alight on Bounty Place in Old Toongabbie — about a five-minute drive away — about 11.15pm.
Police believe the vehicle was linked to the fatal shooting.
The fire was extinguished and no injuries were reported.
Vincent said Momani was visiting the address from outside the local area, though it remains unclear why he was there.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Momani was on bail over an alleged violent home invasion.
He and another man are accused of breaking into a Chester Hill home in September 2023.
He was subsequently charged with aggravated break and enter, robbery in company, and reckless wounding.

Vincent said the shooting appeared to be targeted and stressed police are working to stop further incidents and bring offenders to justice.
The shooting came just two days after another public attack in Sydney, in which 39-year-old Gilbert Shino was shot dead on Ross Street, Forest Lodge.
Shino’s friend, Maradona Yalda, 31, was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds to his neck, chest and abdomen.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
