Indoor activities and catching up on household chores may be the only thing Sydney and Perth residents can do as more heavy rain is expected across the weekend.

NSW has already experienced record-breaking rain levels, with August now being the wettest on record for Sydney in nine years, or since 2016.

The city accumulated 98mm of rain by Friday morning, 18mm above the monthly average, according to Weatherzone.

Light rain up to 15mm is expected across the weekend for Sydney.

Flash flooding is expected in Perth, including surrounding districts with up to 45mm of rain expected in a short time period with a further 70mm alone expected by late Saturday night.

The weekend rain could come close to Perth’s August daily rainfall record of 63.8mm set 31 years ago.

Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) warning of heavy rain and possible flash flooding in the west, persistent coastal showers in the east, and warm, sunny conditions through the centre.

Only showers are expected for parts of South Australia and inner parts of Victoria.

Queensland, including Wide Bay, is expected to receive a may see “moderate to heavy rain”, with Brisbane and the remaing Southeast Coast are expecting only showers.

The showers will stretch along the coast from the Gold Coast up to Rockhampton.

Hazardous surf is also forecast for the Sunshine and K’gari coasts, with strong wind warnings remain in place for parts of the Queensland coastline.

Light to moderate rain is expected for most of Tasmania.
