Authorities allege a man forcefully shoved her into a trolley and shelving, causing her to hit her head and tumble to the floor.
Shoppers and staff ran to her aid before she was taken by ambulance to Armadale Hospital with serious head injuries.
They included a brain haemorrhage, bruising on her face and cuts.
“I look in the mirror and I just get a fright because it’s a bit confronting,” Roberts told 7NEWS.
Roberts’ son Gavin was alerted by an SOS notification from her Apple Watch.
“I then contacted her phone number immediately, then one of the bystanders answered and told me to get down to Coles Haynes as quickly as possible,” he said.
“(I was) shocked to see my mother lying on the floor when she’s just doing her regular shopping.”

Roberts will spend a second night in hospital on Friday, where she is in a stable condition.
She hopes to go home on Saturday but will require ongoing checks given her head trauma.
“When I had a scan they noticed the brain bleed and are monitoring it,” she said.
Roberts said shopping centre security guards should be given stronger powers to stamp out violence.
Her alleged attacker fled on foot before he was found at his home a short time later, police said.
The accused, a 41-year-old man from Armadale, was charged with one count of causing bodily harm with intent, and one count of unlawful damage.
He was refused bail on Friday.
