Hundreds of videos and images containing sexually explicit material of young victims were found on several electronic devices, including hard drives and mobile phones, police allege.
The devices were seized for further forensic analysis.
The man also communicated with victims and facilitators overseas, using social media platforms to engage minors in sexually explicit activity, police allege.
He was charged with four counts of possessing child abuse material.
The maximum penalty if found guilty for the offences is 15 years in jail.
The 37-year-old man faced Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday, and remains before the courts.
“The AFP and its law enforcement partners will never stop fighting to bring online predators to justice and protect children from these horrific crimes,” AFP Detective Superintendent Melinda Adam said.
“For those who seek to harm our vulnerable young people, there is nowhere to hide.”
