Margot Robbie's first film since becoming mum

Margot Robbie has shut down any chance of playing Aussie pop queen Kylie Minogue on the big screen.

The new mum says while she’s a huge fan of Minogue, she simply doesn’t have the vocal talent to pull off the role.

During an appearance on BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Tuesday, presenter Scott Mills told Robbie: “You know Kylie has said a few times that she would love you to play her in a movie.”

Robbie, who grew up on the Gold Coast in Queensland, seemed completely caught off-guard by the endorsement.

“She did not! Why has nobody ever told me this before? That is wild information,” the Barbie star replied in shock.

“I am beyond honoured. Of course, I could not.

“I can’t sing … I can’t sing like Kylie.

“I don’t like it when people can’t actually sing and do a singing movie, you know.”

The radio host is referring to an interview Minogue gave in August 2023 in which the popstar told E! News that she’d like Robbie to play her in a future biopic about her life and career.

“Margot Robbie — in my dreams,” the 55-year-old singer told the outlet, noting both herself and Robbie are Aussies.

“She’d have the Australian accent down, that’s for sure.”

During the radio show appearance this week, Robbie revealed she has in fact met Minogue and recounted their first encounter at the legendary Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles.

“Kylie, by the way, is the first concert I ever went to, Kylie Fever Tour,” Robbie explained.

“Years later, when I was over in America at this point, I got a call from my team being like, ‘Kylie Minogue would like to meet up with you’ and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is the best day of my life.’

“I assumed she wanted to meet to talk about some sort of work thing or maybe she was putting together a charity event or something.

“So I get to the Chateau Marmont and she sat down, the coolest, warmest, most divine creature you’ve ever met.

“She was just like, ‘I just thought, you’re an Aussie, I’m an Aussie and we’ve never met. I thought we should probably hang out and get cocktails.’

“There was no work conversation whatsoever, we just got drunk together.”

Robbie has made headlines this week for her bold and daring outfits during the promotional tour for her new movie A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, in which she stars opposite Colin Farrell.

The feature marks her first film since welcoming a son in October last year with husband Tom Ackerley.
