After 33 games with the Dockers, Webster spent three years as an assistant at Carlton before returning to Western Australia to join the Eagles.

He filled a number of roles at West Coast across a 10-year stint, including the Eagles’ inaugural WAFL coach, development coach, forward line coach and, most recently, backline coach.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Port Adelaide and working with senior coach Josh Carr,” Webster said.

“I’ve been in talks with Port Adelaide for a couple of years now and the opportunity to be part of this club’s new chapter is something I couldn’t pass up.

“Port Adelaide has such a rich history and passionate supporter base, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the club’s success both on and off the field.

“My wife Samantha and I are very excited for our new adventure.”

Carr said the appointment will be a great one for the Power.

“I know Luke really well from our time together at Fremantle and he’s an outstanding person and coach,” Carr said.

“His character is first-class. He’s someone who builds genuine relationships with players and has an outstanding reputation as an assistant coach across multiple areas of the game.

“Luke’s experience and knowledge will be invaluable for our emerging playing group as we continue to build our program.”

Port Adelaide say they “will make further announcements” regarding their football program in the coming weeks.
