That’s all folks

Just three finals left now to determine this year’s premiership winners.

We’ll go again next Friday night for Geelong v Hawthorn, before Collingwood and Brisbane take centre stage on Saturday afternoon.

Who’s your tip?

You’ll see it all live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport.

Crossing a line

Will Ashcroft has admitted he took the Suns’ sledging personally this year.

The 22-year-old was targeted in a pre-season clash, with Gold Coast players reportedly taunting him as the wrong Norm Smith medallist from last year’s grand final.

His younger brother Levi also copped plenty of attention from the Suns.

Asked directly if he was “pretty determined” to play well against Gold Coast tonight, Will was clear.

“Always. Probably this side more than others,” he told Channel 7.

“They come after me a little bit and I go right back at them a little bit. There’s been different instances through the past and in the pre-season.

“If I’m being honest I don’t appreciate that, what they were trying to dish up in a pre-season game to Levi and to myself with physicality and words.”

Kane Cornes responded: “So you took that personally?”

Will replied: “Absolutely, I’m not going to cop that on the chin.”

“But at the end of the day it’s a team game and you’ve got to buy into those team principles to get the result,” Will continued.

“There’s no point in me coming out hot-headed and trying to do things, that’s not going to work. Credit to them, that’s part of football. I love that, I’ll embrace that opportunity.”

Will had the perfect response when the Lions first met the Suns during the home-and-away season, tallying 34 disposals and nine clearances in a Brisbane win.

Gold Coast won the reverse fixture but now Will has had the last laugh, notching two goals from 28 touches to eliminate the Suns from the finals.

It’s an interesting rivalry between the Ashcroft boys and Gold Coast, with dad Marcus leading the Suns’ football operations for 10 years before his sons reached the big time as Lions father-son products.

Winning the battle

Dayne Zorko tells Channel 7 he asked for the role on Touk Miller tonight.

“He plays such an important role for them as that corridor forward, he likes to get up high, he starts their ball movement,” Zorko says.

“I went up to Chris Fagan at the start of the week and said I want that role.

“He said well if you asked for it, you’ve got it. It was a good contest.”

All over for David Swallow

The Gold Coast club great has been chaired off and dropped into the arms of his beloved family.

A former skipper and best and fairest, the 32-year-old’s career ends on 249 games after a memorable finals debut.

Lions into another prelim!

FT - Brisbane 14.16 (100) Gold Coast 6.11 (47)

The premiership defence rolls on - and an MCG date with Collingwood awaits next Saturday evening!

The Suns escaped with victory last week but there was to be no fightback to extend their first finals campaign.

Brisbane captain Harris Andrews said it’s “funny” to have to bounce back from defeat last week and pick the team back up, but this was as good as he could have hoped for.

What does he think of the Pies?

“They’re an unbelievable team, Collingwood,” he tells Channel 7.

“We’ll be up against it but I’m so excited. Proud of our group and just can’t wait to get down there.”

Marching towards victory

Q4 3:51 - Brisbane 14.16 (100) Gold Coast 6.9 (45)

Kai Lohmann gets his third of the night - and again plenty of head rubs from teammates.

The Suns’ entire defence was caught ball-watching and Lohmann marked untouched inside 50.

Zac Bailey kicks his third

Q4 7:39 - Brisbane 13.15 (93) Gold Coast 6.9 (45)

A shake of the head from Suns coach Damien Hardwick as he gets free inside 50 for a mark and simple set shot.

Drought broken

Q4 9:28 - Brisbane 12.14 (86) Gold Coast 6.9 (45)

The Suns have finally kicked another goal and the celebrations are... muted, to say the least.

Take a bow, Dunks
