A 21-year-old man known to the victim was arrested just hours after the stabbing.

A woman is fighting for life after she was allegedly stabbed during a violent early morning attack at a home on the NSW Central Coast.

The 49-year-old was found with stab wounds about 5.15am on Monday at a property on Bowden Rd, Woy Woy.

She was treated by paramedics and rushed to Gosford Hospital before being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital for further treatment.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 21-year-old man at Parramatta bus station just after 7.25am.

He is believed to be known to the woman.

He was taken to Parramatta Police Station and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday.
