A man with his face hidden by a hooded jumper was brought outside the home in handcuffs about 4pm on Friday.

The man was detained as officers searched the home for illegal guns, as part of the wider investigation sparked by the alleged double murder, Sunrise understands.

Freeman, 56, has not been seen since he allegedly shot Victoria Police officers Neal Thompson and Vadim de Waart-Hottart at a property in Porepunkah, about 300km northeast of Melbourne, on August 26.

The alleged killer then fled into nearby bushland.

The town of Bright has since become a “ghost town,” according to one local business owner, as tourists avoid the area now swarming with police and military officials searching for Freeman in the nation’s largest tactical operation.

Businesses who have lost money as a result during the search became eligible for $5000 grants on Monday.

The $2.5 million state government assistance package includes money for the local council, chamber of commerce and a marketing campaign to entice visitors back.

Despite extensive searches and numerous tip-offs, police have not been able to narrow down three possibilities: Freeman remains in bushland alone, he is being assisted by others, or he is dead as a result of self-harm.

A reward is available to anyone who provides information leading to Freeman’s capture, including his wife, Mali, who police say has not fully cooperated with the investigation.
