Two cars may have been drag-racing when the cyclist was hit, police say.

A second person has been charged over the death of a cyclist in an alleged hit-and-run.

The 34-year-old cyclist was hit by a black Hyundai IX35 in suburban Bundaberg, Queensland, about 7.50pm on April 29.

The Hyundai was reported to have been driving side-by-side with a second car on Takalvan St at Millbank, both heading in the direction of Bundaberg’s city centre.

The cyclist was only a 10-minute ride from his home in Bundaberg Central when he was hit.

Paramedics attempted to revive the man, but he died at the scene.

Whether the two cars were involved in a drag race will form part of the investigation, police said at the time.

Police said neither driver stopped to assist the man, and the Hyundai was later found abandoned a short distance away.

A 22-year-old man from Avoca was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a vehicle, among other offences.

He was refused police bail and is due before Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

It follows the arrest of a 21-year-old man from Norville in Bundaberg West on Wednesday.

He was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, causing death, and is due back i Bundaberg Magistrates Court on June 30.
