A young driver and passenger are lucky to be alive after being stuck in the wreckage.

Two teenagers have been rescued from the wreckage of a car which was badly damaged in a horrific crash.

The car left the road and crashed into a tree off High Street Rd in Mount Waverley, in Melbourne‘s east, about 10pm on Monday.

The car, which rescuers said was almost split in two by the impact, came to rest next to a fence.

An 18-year-old driver and her 17-year-old female passenger were pulled from the wreckage and treated by paramedics at the scene.

They were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The investigation into the crash is ongoing,” police said.
