Parents are on alert after a boy was approached by a man in a white van near a Sydney primary school.

The 10-year-old boy was walking to an after-school activity along Baringa Rd, Northbridge, close to St Philip Neri Primary School, when the man pulled up about 4.30pm on Tuesday.

Police said they were told the man spoke to the boy before driving away.

The primary school sent an email to parents this week, warning them of the alleged incident in their neighbourhood that was flagged by a local.

“This parent reported to us that yesterday, as their children were walking to an after-school activity, a man in a white van stopped alongside the children, offered them lollies and asked if they wanted a ride,” the email read.

The school assured parents the children did not engage with the driver and were safe.

The email went on to remind families about the importance of “protective behaviours conversations” to help children avoid unsafe situations.

“I am sharing this with you now, so if your child usually walks home after school and you would feel more comfortable making alternative arrangements, you have time to do so,” the note said.

Some locals have since claimed similar sightings of a man in a white van near North Sydney and Willoughby Park.

“Yes happens at Willoughby Park every now and then — the police ask locals for surveillance footage,” the comment said.

NSW Police said it had been notified about the incident on Thursday and had launched an investigation.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to come forward.
