Police and ambulance crews were later called to nearby Guilford Ave in Prospect after reports that a man had been stabbed in the legs after an altercation with a group of three youths.

“It was a teenage girl being bashed by her boyfriend, so we tried to stop the boyfriend” a witness told 7NEWS.

“He started attacking my friend, then his other mates came and stabbed my friend.”

7NEWS has been told the knife struck the victim’s bone, and he underwent surgery on Monday night to reduce the risk of an infection.

No arrests have been made, with police urging anyone with any information to contact them.
