Authorities say the bus slammed head-on into a truck carrying cottonseed.

Eleven people are dead and 45 others are injured after a crash between a bus and a truck in Brazil’s central-western state of Mato Grosso.

The injured were sent to nearby hospitals, toll road operator Nova Rota do Oeste and highway police said.

Among the injured, 11 were in a critical condition, 26 in moderate condition and eight had only minor injuries, they added.

Initial information indicates that a bus collided head-on with a truck transporting cottonseed near the city of Lucas do Rio Verde, according to Nova Rota do Oeste.
