Commbank warned customers on Friday that there would be an outage from midnight until 9am on Saturday.

The bank said all services resumed at 10.40am.

“We expect services to be restored within the next hour,” Commbank said in a statement released two hours after the maintenance was planned to finish.

“Our planned maintenance is taking a little longer than expected. We hope to have you back online soon and appreciate your patience.”

An hour later, the bank confirmed: “All Commbank services are now available.”

But the bank warned some knock-on effects could still be felt by some customers until the end of the day.

“There may be some delays in previous scheduled payments and transfers, Commbank said.

Customers flocked online to share how the hours-long outage affected them.

“I tried paying for pet food today, about $50, and my card declined, but since the app running again, I have been charged that $50,” one person said on X.

He left the store without the pet food and without a receipt, and said that he now “can’t get a refund.”

Another customer who said she was supposed to get paid on Saturday, asked: “I’m not sure how you guys expect me to live this week.”

“I was paid this morning, you know, my fortnightly allowance to live, pay rent, buy food, fill up my car. I currently have $0 in my account.”

Her fears were felt by another netizen who said: “This is a total disgrace, I have to pay rent and utilities today!”

Another customer said he had to turn to cryptocurrency to buy his mates a round at the bar.

“I couldn’t make a bucks event in Greece, so I wanted to shout the boys a round so I could contribute to the festivities. My Australian bank, Commbank, was down so I couldn’t send my Aussie mates cash using PayID,” he said on X.

“Had some money crypto sitting in a wallet ... created a payment link and WhatsApp’d to my friend in Greece.”
