Car smashes into WA deli during crash

A car has ploughed into a Victoria Park deli during a two-car crash late on Tuesday.

A Ford and a Volkswagon crashed on Balmoral St, with the Ford then smashing into Balmoral Store, just before midnight.

The Ford driver fled on foot, abandoning his car.

The 19-year-old Volkswagon driver suffered minor injuries, and remained at the crash site.

The owners of Balmoral Store live above the deli, which is no longer an operating business. They were not injured in the crash.

Their destroyed deli facade has now been covered up to protect it from the elements, as investigations into the crash continue.

Former NSW politician jailed

Former Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maguire has been sentenced to jail.

He will face 10 months behind bars with a non-parole period of five months, for giving false or misleading evidence during ICAC proceedings.

Maguire was taken into custody for about two hours following the sentencing hearing, as his lawyer filed a bail application that was quickly granted pending an appeal.

Maguire resigned from NSW parliament in 2018 after ICAC began investigating the improper use of his role as an MP to benefit a company in which he had a financial interest.

A secret relationship between himself and forrmer NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian was later revealed in a bombshell public hearing in October 2020.

Two separate crashes in outbound lanes on the Monash Fwy have caused congestion in Melbourne’s east.

A vehicle rolled on the M1 at High St, following an earlier crash at Burke St.

Traffic was backed up to the Burnley Tunnel, and onto the West Gate Fwy.

The vehicles that crashed have now been moved, and three out of four lanes have reopened

There are traffic delays of up to two hours, which are now easing, Transport Victoria said.

New details emerge after BP stabbing death

An Iraqi migrant has been identified as the victim of a deadly Melbourne stabbing.

He worked as a painter, before he collapsed with stab wounds outside a BP on Potter St in Dandenong about 4.50am on Tuesday.

His friends have since told 7NEWS that the 39-year-old lived in a neighbouring unit, where it is believed he was stabbed.

The victim’s dog, Troy, is also missing, his friends said.

Officers patrolling on the Princess Hwy saw the man run toward the service station and collapse. They rushed to help him, before he died of his injuries.

Detectives believe the attack was targeted, but the killer and motive so far remain a mystery.

New South Wales and Queensland cop a drenching

The east coast of Australia will bear the brunt of woolly weather ahead of the weekend.

New South Wales and Queensland are both forecast to receive huge rainfall totals, with Sydney alone set for a downpour of up to 115mm before Saturday.

Brisbane will also get up to 90mm of rain before the weekend, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).

The storms in both states are due to a trough sitting over central and southern Queensland.

A marine wind warning has been released in Queensland covering the South East Gulf of Carpentaria and Peninsula Coast on Wednesday, and the Torres Strait, Peninsula Coast and Cooktown Coast on Thursday.

In New South Wales, heavy winds will also lash the Macquarie Coast, Hunter Coast, Sydney Coast and Illawarra Coast on Thursday.

A flood warning is also in place for the Namoi River catchment in New South Wales, with a flood watch alert for the North West Slopes, Mid North Coast and into the Hunter.

Warning over counterfeit cash in circulation

Convincing counterfeit cash is being circulated in Canberra.

More than 80 businesses and local sellers have been duped by the fake money in the last year, with the latest reports coming through last week.

Offenders are mostly using larger denominations like $50 and $100 to buy low-priced items, profiting off the legitimate notes given as change.

The fake notes often have the words “COPY” or “PROP” printed on them, and police have warned those handling cash to look carefully at notes before accepting them.
