The home won the Wilkinson Award for residential architecture.

There's something truly special about 'Glebe House'. While it's certainly unique for Sydney, it's also a remarkable architectural achievement.

Designed by Chenchow Little Architects, the property won the Wilkinson Award 2020 for residential architecture by the Australian Institute of Architecture.

Director of BresicWhitney East, Shannan Whitney, said much of the property's interest was due to it's uniqueness.

"It's an interesting house because it's been regarded as a successful contemporary solution for inner-city housing on small blocks in tight streets," he said.

The first floor features a family room, open-plan living, dining and kitchen, powder room, and a generous outdoor terrace.

Leading out from the terrace is a low-maintenance backyard that is sympathetic to its natural environment and offers sweeping views of the city skyline.

"I think its strength and its point of difference is really its architectural merit," said Mr Whitney. "The standard of architecture is at a very high level and that's where it sets itself apart."

With its soaring ceilings, dramatic voids, arched windows and sculptural spiral staircase, the property includes architectural points of interest at each turn.

When taking groups through the property, Mr Whitney said he is met with mostly "surprise and wonder."

"In our part of Sydney, this style of housing is not something that's been produced often so it's a real surprise for people," he said. "It's always refreshing to see people do different things."

38 Ferry Road, Glebe is currently listed for sale by Shannan Whitney and Melinda Antella from BresicWhitney East. The property has a price guide of $5.7 million.
