“To everyone still dreaming of this moment, we’re thinking of you 🤍”
The post was immediately flooded with likes and comments from the sporting community.
“Now this is the news I needed to hear today 😍😍😍😍 congratulations ❤️❤️❤️ best news ever!!! I’m so bloody happy for you both xxxxxx,” Aussie great Casey Dellacqua wrote.
“Such great news! Congratulations to you guys… ❤️❤️❤️🎉” Aussie legend Todd Woodbridge added.
Italian star Jasmine Paolini, Aussie netballer Jo Weston and Aussie great Dylan Alcott also left comments.
Daria has previously been open about freezing her eggs, posting a video on Instagram last year about her journey.
“Haven’t seen an athlete share this so I thought I would hehe,” she said at the time.
Daria was born in Moscow, but switched allegiances to Australia in 2015 after getting together with Luke.
They became engaged in 2018 before marrying in 2021 when Daria (née Gavrilova) took his surname.
Daria, 31, reached as high as No.20 in the world in 2017, same year she reached the fourth round at the Australian Open.
That remains her equal-best ever performance at a grand slam.
A series of devastating injuries have since curtailed her career, although she did with the third round at Roland Garros in 2022.
Currently ranked No.160 in the world, Daria failed to get past the first round of qualifying at the US Open last month.
Luke, also 31, announced his retirement from professional tennis at this year’s Australian Open. His final match was a doubles clash with fellow Aussie Li Tu.
Luke won two grand slam junior titles, but struggled to make a significant impact on the professional tour. He did enjoy some success in the doubles arena, reaching the Australian Open final in 2020 with Max Purcell.
