The father of five was ‘transported to Brisbane City Watchhouse’ after the positive result.

NRL hall-of-famer Steve Renouf has apologised after he allegedly blew almost four times over the legal limit in a roadside breath test (RBT) on Tuesday night.

Police have issued a statement about the test, which happened at around 10.45pm AEST on July 1, not far away from the Brisbane Broncos base on Fulcher Rd..

“Police intercepted a white Kia K4 on Windsor Road, Red Hill for a routine licence check and roadside breath test (RBT),” the statement said.

“It will be alleged, the driver and sole occupant, a 55-year-old Red Hill man returned a positive result.”

Renouf is not just a legend of the Broncos, but also represented the Australian Kangaroos on 11 occasions.

He played in four premierships for the Broncos in the 1990s and is still the club’s all-time leading try scorer (with 142).

“He was transported to Brisbane City Watchhouse, where he returned a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.197 per cent,” police said.

Renouf is also a father of five who has had a high-profile battle with type-1 diabetes.

After the news was made public, he issued an apology on Instagram.

“I accept and acknowledge that my actions are unacceptable,” the 55-year-old said.

“I have let down my family, the Broncos’ fans, the rugby league community, the Queensland public and my mob.

“I am sorry for letting everyone down and am embarrassed and disappointed with my actions.

“I will accept my punishment and will aim to do better.”

Police have have suspended Renouf’s licence and charged him with one count of driving under the influence of liquor,

He is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday, July 16.

On June 2, Broncos media manager Melissa Mallet also received a high-range drink driving charge in Paddington.

It has been alleged Mallet crashed into two parked cars while under the influence. She has not entered a plea.

While a legend of the club, Renouf holds no official position at the Broncos.
