Western Bulldogs champion Marcus Bontempelli is hoping his beloved club can lure Zak Butters away from Port Adelaide.
Butters does have a contract until the end of 2026 (when he will become a free agent) but multi-million-dollar offers are already rolling in for the 24-year-old superstar.
It has been reported that Port have a mega-offer on the table for Butters, who has won the club’s past two club best-and-fairest awards.

Port have reportedly put on the table a two-year extension, which will take Butters to unrestricted free agency. But he also has an option to extend the deal by another six years which will tie him to the club until the end of 2034.
But Bontempelli is hoping the Bulldogs can tempt Butters to make a move back to his home state.
“I’m certainly open to it,” Bontempelli told 7NEWS.

“I think that’s where the modern game is heading ... how you can position yourself as a football club differently (to bring in big-name stars).”
Bontempelli, fresh off signing his own four-year deal, says as a captain of the football club he’s also hoping he can help sell the Doggies dream.
“You feel like you’ve got a bit of skin in the game (as a captain) in how you can try and influence the direction we want to go in,” Bontempelli told 7NEWS.
“Hopefully that makes the Bulldogs look like an appealing place to other talent.
“He’s got a big decision on his mind and I hope we’re in the situation and the football club looks potentially like a place he could see himself; but clearly that’s all probably in Zak’s space and department.”
The Western Bulldogs already have the best midfield (arguably) in the competition and, if Butters was to join them, he would seemingly put that ‘argument’ beyond doubt.
“I love watching him as a footballer,” Bontempelli said.
“If we happen to end up in the same team, I’d be pretty happy about that too.”
Bontempelli also explained why it took so long for him to finally put pen to paper on his own contract.
“It’s funny, to me it doesn’t feel like Round 19 or 20 ... it just took some time because of the different things that were going on in my life and making sure I felt really good at the time i was going to sign,” ,” he told 7NEWS.
“Not that I was really waiting for anything ... other than wanting to get some clean air from my busy life schedule with a few different things going on.
“Strategically, it made the most sense at the time ... (player manager) Tommy Petroro and I have always backed ourselves in.”
