The 22-year-old took a strong mark near the boundary line as Demons defender Tom McDonald attempted to spoil.
As Dempsey completed the mark, McDonald’s arm swung back and appeared to collect the Cat in the face.
It’s unclear how much contact was made, but Dempsey quickly flung his head back and fell to the ground.

There was clearly no injury suffered, as Dempsey quickly got back to his feet and handballed to Jeremy Cameron, who had a shot at goal.
Dempsey was given a $1500 fine, that can be reduced to $1000 with an early guilty plea, by the match review officer.
However, he may choose to contest the fine.
Last week, Essendon youngster Ben Hobbs successfully overturned a staging fine after he was cited against Port Adelaide.
Hobbs grabbed his face after a heavy tackle when it appeared his head made no contact with the ground.
Meanwhile, Melbourne forward Bayley Fritsch was also fined after being charged for rough conduct.
Fritsch tunnelled Geelong defender Tom Stewart in an ugly incident that was lucky not to cause significant damage.
The incident was assessed as careless conduct, low impact and body conduct, which resulted in a $1500 fine with an early plea.
