The big forward could hardly believe his eyes when he turned around and saw a dog chewing on his leg.

Former AFL player Jonathan Freeman has been bitten by a dog in a game of local footy.

Playing for the Noosa Tigers against Surfers Paradise Demons in the QAFL on Saturday, Freeman copped a mouthful — literally — from a dog that was sitting inside the fencing of the ground.

Extraordinary video captured shows Freeman’s surprise when he looked behind himself to see a dog biting his leg before running back into the field of play and collecting the ball.

Quickly brushing it off, the former Brisbane Lions forward got a handball receive and attempted a miraculous shot at goal from the boundary line but missed.

He later came to the bench to be assessed, where medical staff thought it was serious enough to send him to hospital as a precaution.

“Who would’ve thought this would happen in a game of footy,” Noosa wrote on social media.

“In one of the more unexpected moments of the season, Noosa captain Jono Freeman copped a bite mid-game — yes, from an actual dog (and almost kicked the goal).“He went to hospital as a precaution and got the all clear. He’s doing fine, just maybe steering clear of the dog park for a bit.”

Freeman played 14 games for the Lions between 2014 and 2016, kicking 16 goals.

He has kicked 31 goals in 15 games for Noosa this year.
