As the AFL season races to the pointy end, multiple reports are suggesting controversial US rapper Snoop Dogg will be the headline act on grand final day.

In fact, AFL great Brendan Fevola said “I can tell you 100 per cent” that Snoop Dogg — “a bloke who’s been banned from the country” — will be appearing at the AFL’s showpiece event.

And 3AW host Ross Stevenson also said it had “been suggested” to him that the 53-year-old rapper was the chosen one, along with Dr Dre.

As the story went viral, fans reacted on social media with many, including Fevola, not happy.

“It will be an epic fail,” Fevola brutally declared on The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick, however, his co-host Fifi Box was not on board.

“I love Snoop. That excites me, but he doesn’t ... I’m interested to see how that’ll go on the day,” Box said.

Fevola: “Not for me ... he’s gonna have to smoke like a joint. He’s gonna have to do some real radical stuff (to get the crowd going).

“But I just think it’s a fail ... we did hear Foo Fighters. That would have been amazing. You want sing-along (songs). Kids aren’t going to the MCG (for Snoop).”

Last year Katy Perry was considered a roaring success and fans were also blown away by high-energy acts in KISS and Robbie Williams in 2023 and 2022.

But the announcement of Snoop has also left fans cold, with many highlighting his reputation for drug use and misogynistic lyrics.

“I’ve kind of done everything I can to avoid exposing my kids to this culture, why do the AFL want to,” one fan said.

“AFL always respects women,” another said

And another: “Embarrassing decision. He’s terrible now. Australia is the only place that gives him the time of day. The Menulog GF. 🤦‍♂️.”

And another: “Some dude well past his used by date ... Honestly Is there no current local band in these shores that could whip up a storm? This is the best we can do ???? AFL still haven’t learnt their lesson from Meat Loaf.”

And another: “Why does Meat Loaf immediately spring to mind?

And another: “I love Snoop and have seen him live twice. Let me put it like this - if you are trying to get someone to rival Meat Loaf as the worst ever choice for GF entertainment, he is your man. PS. Do the AFL have any idea what he sings about? 😀”

While another said: “Hope they can hand out enough weed so we can all enjoy the show🥴.”

And another: “Seriously, AFL?? You couldn’t actually find some real Aussie talent for the 2025 AFL Grand Final pre-game entertainment?? Typical ... 🙄.

The AFL did not confirm the Snoop Dogg story but said they were hoping to make announcement soon.

“The pre-game entertainment at the AFL grand final is always a talking point, and we’re hoping to make an announcement shortly,” a spokesperson said.

“We are excited to deliver another world-class show in front of 100,000 fans at the MCG, and the millions more watching the broadcast ahead of the biggest game of the season.”
