Star Carlton defender Jacob Weitering has shocked his club in the aftermath of his 200th game.
In the rooms after Carlton’s 24-point loss to Hawthorn on Thursday night, there was a rollercoaster of emotions, as the players dealt with another bitter loss while also farewelling their beloved teammate Sam Docherty.
But Weitering, 27, was able to briefly lift the mood with his post-game speech taking a surprise ‘baby’ twist.

“And to my close family, my sister couldn’t be here tonight. She’s in Japan with her boyfriend. I love Grace very much,” Weitering said.
“And to my parents, thank you for everything you’ve done. You’ve been my absolute rock forever. I can’t thank you enough.
“And to my wife, Isabel, you’ve been there from the very start. I’m so lucky to have you.

“For those that don’t know, we’re starting a family.”
As teammates, club officials and fans digested the news, there was a sudden outburst of cheers and applause.
The club shared a video of Weitering’s speech on Friday morning.
“Weiters announcing this in his post-200 game presentation wasn’t on our bingo card,” Carlton said.
“Congratulations to Jacob and wife Isabel.”
Surprises are nothing new for the Weiterings.
Their wedding in November, 2024, also came as a shocking, taking place five months after they were engaged.
It has been a whirlwind 12 months for Weitering, who also signed a monster six-year contract extension in October last year.
