Wife Brooke shared details of the ordeal on social media, posting security footage of a car pulling up in front of their house at 6pm.
A hooded thief then went to Cotchin’s unlocked Mercedes, opening the door and helping himself to a wallet, including an Amex card.
Cotchin told 7NEWS that multiple transactions were made on the card before they locked it.
Police were at the Cotchin’s house on Friday morning to take statements.
Brooke said on Instagram that anything “half valuable” in the car had been taken, along with a picture of a toothbrush and toothpaste that was left behind.

She also said her family were “rattled” by the incident and that one of their children slept with their lights on.
They shared footage of the incident in a bid to raise awareness and hope online sleuths can help find the thief.
Cotchin retired at the end of 2023 after a brilliant career with the Tigers.
As well as captaining the team to three premierships, Cotchin won three best and fairests during his storied 306-game career.
