The primary school student was rushed to hospital with head injuries.

A young boy has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a falling tree during wild weather in NSW.

The primary school aged boy was on an oval at Oatley Public School in Sydney when he was hit by a large falling eucalypt tree at about 2pm on Thursday.

Paramedics treated him for head injuries before taking him to St George Hospital in a stable condition.

The incident comes as wild weather ripped through parts of NSW, with wind gusts of up to 100km/h recorded in Sydney, and reports of roofs being ripped off houses.

The cold blast has brought dumping’s of snow west of the Blue Mountains at Oberon and Shooters Hill.

Rescue teams were also called out to the Mount Kosciuszko National Park to assist a team of hikers stranded in deep snow.

One 20-year-old man was carried out by rescuers in a stable condition.
