Australian holidaymakers have been caught up in a Bali flooding emergency that has already claimed several lives.

Torrential overnight rain inundated homes, turned busy streets to rivers, left cars submerged and brought down two buildings in the tourist island’s capital of Denpasar, killing four people.

Another two people have died and more than 80 were evacuated from the Jembrana region, Reuters reports.

Perth woman Kim Eastough, 61, is stranded in the ground-floor villa she is leasing in Legian, on Bali’s west coast, just north of Kuta.

She said a nearby river succumbed to the “totally unseasonal” drenching and overflowed, spreading to her place and leaving it soaking in four inches of water.

“The whole complex is flooded out,” she told 7NEWS, as water lapped at her bed.

“No one can leave their buildings or anything because obviously, the water, you can’t see what’s underneath.

“It’s very confronting.”

Eastough, who celebrated her birthday only last week, said it rained all of Tuesday but the wild weather ramped up early on Wednesday, along with the thunder and lightning.

“I’m a little bit scared. I’ve just got to wait it out, I suppose,” she said.

“I’ve lived up north (of WA) and been through floods ... but this is different when you’re stuck in your house.”

One Aussie expat said the situation in Seminyak was as bad as he had seen in the last decade.

Another said their accomodation had no power “so we’ve just taken all our stuff and we’re leaving”.

Staff at one Kuta hotel evacuated guests on kayaks.

There are several flights to Bali from Australia on Wednesday night, and travellers are recommended to check with their carrier for disruptions.

SmartTraveller’s current advice is to exercise a high degree of caution.
