A woman and a child have died in a fiery crash on the Mid North Coast of NSW.

Police and fire crews were called to Hat Head Rd in Hat Head, an hour north of Port Macquarie, at about 9.40am on Friday.

Officers found the car crashed into a tree and ablaze.

Firefighters managed to put the fire out and retrieved the body of a woman, believed to be in her 20s, and a child, believed to be aged two, from the vehicle.

They have not yet been formally identified.

“Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash,” NSW Police said.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
