A third teenage boy travelling in the car survived the horror crash with injuries.

Two teenagers have been killed in a single-vehicle crash on Tuesday.

The car crashed into a tree near the corner of Murphys Ln and Bonang-Orbost Rd at Orbost, near the Snowy River in far southeast Victoria, at about 12.20am.

The 18-year-old male driver and a 15-year-old male passenger died at the scene, Victoria Police said.

Another boy, aged 16, was taken to hospital. His condition and the nature of his injuries are unclear.

Senior Sergeant Luke Banwell described the road the car was travelling on as narrow and windy and said it was wet at the time.

Muddy tyre marks were visible on the side of the road.

He said the accident would have an enormous impact on the local community.

“I can guarantee you, the people in the town will know all of these people and this is what really shocks and traumatises a local community,” Banwell said.

The car has been towed from the scene for forensic examinations.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

The deaths mark the 135th and 136th lives lost on the state’s road this year.
