The little boy was allegedly injured during two separate occasions on the same day.

Two childcare workers have been charged over the assault of a 17-month-old boy in their care.

Police initially received a report that the toddler had been injured at an early learning centre in South Wentworthville, Sydney, on June 26.

Detectives with the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad began investigating and found the child’s injuries were allegedly caused by two childcare workers at the centre.

The child sustained the injuries during two separate instances on the same day, police said.

On Tuesday, two women were issued Future Court Attendance Notices.

A 42-year-old woman was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault and a 32-year-old woman was charged with common assault.

Both will appear in Blacktown Local Court on Wednesday.
