The boy was a Year 9 student at nearby Wynnum State School, which is located about 1km from the roundabout.
The 17-year-old boy behind the wheel of the car and his two passengers, a 41-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy, were not physically injured in the incident.
Queensland Police will investigate the circumstances of the incident.
The 4WD was seen stuck under a nearby train bridge, known locally as Duck Bridge.
The name comes from its low clearance of just 1.9 metres, making drivers feel they have to duck as they pass underneath.
It is one of the lowest railway bridges in Queensland.
It is unclear whether the bridge played a role in the crash.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage from the area around the time of the crash, to contact Policelink.
