The victim suffered injuries to his hands and shoulder.

An elderly resident who complained about loud music has allegedly been attacked with a machete.

The 72-year-old man was knocked on the door of his neighbour’s unit on Moulden Tce at Moulden, a Palmerston suburb 30 minutes east of Darwin, about 6.10pm.

The neighbour was allegedly armed with a machete when he opened the door, and slashed the 72-year-old man after a “confrontation ensued,” Northern Territory Police said.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his hands and shoulder.

He was taken to Palmerston Regional Hospital for treatment.

“The alleged offender retreated into his unit,” police said.

A siege response was engaged and police called negotiators and the Territory Response Group to the scene.

“The man later surrendered without incident,” police said.

He was arrested and charged with recklessly endangering serious harm and unlawfully causing serious harm.

He remains in custody and is set to appear in Darwin Local Court on Tuesday.
