A drone has been used to smuggle contraband into a Queensland prison on Christmas Day.
A prisoner caught the package dropped by the drone, which was spotted by an officer about 1.45pm in the exercise yard of Capricornia Correctional Centre in Central Queensland.
The centre was immediately put into lockdown and the package confiscated, according to corrections authorities.

A second contraband package was dropped into the prison by drone shortly after the first.

Prisoners remained in lockdown while the centre was searched.
On Boxing Day, the prisoner who caught the first package started to behave in an "elevated manner" after telling staff he had swallowed an unknown substance.
The prisoner was returned to the centre from the hospital the same day.
