A baby has been found dead inside a home, and a woman has been taken to hospital.

The body of the child, believed to be aged under 12 months, was found inside a home on Campion Ave at Balcatta in Perth about 3am on Monday.

A woman at the scene was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

A neighbour told The West Australian a young mother had been living at the home with her two kids.

WA Police said the investigation remains in its early stages, with family members assisting detectives with their inquiries.

No charges have been laid.
