Learner rider charged after woman dies from injuries sustained in horror crash on Sydney’s M5

The 37-year-old died two days after being struck by a motorbike.
A 19-year-old has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.

A teenage motorbike rider has been charged after a woman died from injuries sustained in a horror crash.

Emergency services were called to the M5 motorway in the south-west of Sydney, near Revesby, shortly after 9.25pm on Saturday 30 August, following reports of a serious crash.

Police said a Mitsubishi SUV had pulled into an emergency bay when a motorcycle allegedly struck a passenger who had stepped out of the vehicle.

The woman, 37, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

She died two days later on September 1.

The SUV’s driver, a 34-year-old man, and two young girls — aged five and three — who were sitting in the back seat, were not injured.

The rider — a 19-year-old man on a learner licence — was also taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A crime scene was established and detectives from the Crash Investigation Unit launched an inquiry into the incident.

On Saturday, September 13, investigators arrested the 19-year-old man at a home in Campbelltown.

He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death. His licence was immediately suspended.

The teen was granted conditional bail and is set to face Campbelltown Local Court on Thursday, October 9.

A report will be prepared for the coroner for the 37-year-old woman.
