Moore Park Beach: Mother charged with murdering her daughter at Bundaberg

Lauren Ingrid Flanigan, 32, is due to face Bundaberg Magistrates Court later today.

A mother charged with murdering her three-year-old daughter previously spoke about her excitement at being pregnant with the little girl.

Lauren Ingrid Flanigan, 32, allegedly stabbed her daughter to death in the front yard of Regency Road home at Moore Park Beach in Bundaberg, Central Queensland, on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the house just before 5pm, where they found the girl.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the child died at the scene.

Police allegedly found Flanigan in the front yard of the home when they arrived and arrested her, before later charging her with murder.

Flanigan’s case was mentioned at Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Tuesday but she was not required to appear.

Flanigan championed various causes online, including advocating against domestic violence and the benefits of digital work options for mothers.

In 2021, during her pregnancy with her daughter, Flanigan shared photos of her holding her baby bump as she gushed over her excitement at becoming a parent.

“16 weeks pregnant and totally loving becoming your mama my sweet girl,” one post read.

“26 weeks pregnant,” she wrote the following month.

“So far it has been a rapid transformation in every way ... Mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. Becoming a mum is the most amazing journey. Feeling so blessed.”

Photos posted online show the little girl posing in photos with her parents and celebrating her first birthday in 2022, with a rose-decorated cake, inscribed with her name.

The girl’s father was away working at the time, but has returned home after being alerted to the incident.

Acting Superintendent Brad Inskip said police were called to the home after receiving “multiple triple-0 calls” from the community, including neighbours.

Police confirmed the little girl had “multiple wounds” on her body and a knife was found at the scene.

“Despite multiple attempts from QPS and QAS to apply first aid to that child, that child unfortunately dies due to the injuries that she had received,” Inskip said, visibly moved.

Inskip said two other children, aged one and two, were inside the home at the time.

Neither of the children were injured in the alleged incident and they are currently being cared for by family members.

The house has been declared a crime scene, with forensic and scientific officers examining the property.

Inskip said the girl’s father, who has been reunited with the other children, is “no doubt absolutely devastated”.

He said welfare support was being made available to police officers and members of the community as they grapple with the “terrible” incident.

“No doubt it was a horrific scene, it’s a terrible, terrible incident for everybody, including the witnesses and the neighbours, including the emergency services police and ambulances who attended and investigators who are doing the ongoing investigation.” he said.

“This is not something that we or one of us wanna attend, but we’re one of the people who have to deal with.

“We have reached out to council to support the community as well, and there are welfare options available on the QPS website as well.”
