A train is blocking a platform and delaying journeys home.

Evening chaos struck Metro train commuters on Tuesday afternoon, with a mechanical issue blamed for halting services.

A train became stranded at Sydney’s Barangaroo Station, blocking a platform and delaying the evening commute.

Authorities said the issue involved the device that connects the train to the overhead live wires.

“Just after 4pm, a metro train was held at Barangaroo Station due to a pantograph issue,” Sydney Metro said in a statement.

“Announcements are being made onboard and on platforms, and a very limited service is running between Sydenham and Barangaroo.

“A technician is on the way to the train to resolve the issue and move the train.”

The issue was resolved about 7.30pm.

“The earlier mechanical issue at Barangaroo has now been resolved,” Sydney Metro said.

“Please continue to allow extra travel time while metro services return to normal. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
