The driver is now fighting for life in hospital as police hunt a gunman.

A man has been found with a suspected gunshot wound following a car crash in Melbourne‘s north.

Police say a white Toyota coupe crashed through a park fence and into a tree near the corner of Donald Cameron Dr and Bridgewater Rd in Roxburgh Park at about 7pm on Sunday.

The 30-year-old driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries including a gunshot wound to his lower body.

He remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

A 26-year-old woman who was also in the car was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries sustained in the crash.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the matter are yet to be determined but police believe this is a targeted incident,” Victoria Police said.

Investigations are ongoing.
