An alleged armed home invader has been charged after he allegedly broke into a home and tried to sexually assault one of the residents.

He was allegedly wielding a bat and a meat cleaver when he entered the home in the Central Coast suburb of Erina at about 12.20am last Saturday.

He demanded cash, then assaulting a 37-year-old man, before attempting to sexually assault a 38-year-old woman, NSW Police allege.
