A man and woman were in the Swift, with the man returning to the scene after initially escaping with the woman.
The BMW fled but was later found engulfed in flames on Targo Rd in Toongabbie about 12.13pm.
Nearby residents described the terrifying scene.
“Just roaring flames and explosions everywhere, like inside the car, the windows, everything,” said Monica Sandalic.
“It was quite a shock. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Firefighters extinguished the blaze within hours.
Superintendent Simon Glasser said at least two shots were fired, but no one was injured.
The Suzuki Swift was found with damages caused by gunshots on Whalans Rd in Greystanes.
Glasser said the occupants are known to police, and police believe the attack was targeted and linked to organised crime.
Crime scenes have been established at all three locations, and investigations are ongoing.
