The “erratic behaving woman” was first seen approaching people in a Woolworths on Nicholson St.

It’s alleged a fight broke out between the woman and one of the store’s employees, a 45-year-old man.

The woman, 24, allegedly stabbed the man in the stomach before leaving the store and making her way to a McDonald’s nearby.

She allegedly went up to a 21-year-old man in his car and demanded a lift.

A fight broke out and the woman allegedly stabbed the young man in the stomach before fleeing again.

Police say the woman then travelled to a pub on Macleod St, the Grand Terminus Hotel, where she allegedly stabbed a 52-year-old man in the arm.

The final stop of the woman’s rampage was Bairnsdale Train Station where she allegedly got into another fight with a man, aged 25, and stabbed him in the shoulder.

Police arrested the woman of no fixed address at the scene.

The first victim was airlifted to Melbourne with serious but non-life-threatening injuries where he remains in a stable condition.

The other three men all received minor injuries and were taken to Bairnsdale Regional Hospital but have since been discharged.

Inspector Mark Rossiter said the woman was known to police.

Her motive is unclear but the attack did not appear to be targeted, he said.

“An unprovoked attack is very rare, an unprovoked attack with multiple victims is even rarer and something I haven’t seen locally in Gippsland before,” Rossiter said.

There will be increased police patrols in the Bairnsdale CBD area to ensure the community there is no ongoing danger.

“It’s a significant incident which would have been quite confronting for those involved and be quite confronting for community members to see that an incident like that occurred in our community,” Rossiter said.

It’s also understood a security guard has been posted outside the Woolworths.

A spokesperson for the supermarket said it was offering support to the team member involved in the incident as well as its other employees.

“There’s no place for violence like this anywhere in our community and every retail worker deserves the right to a safe workplace,” the spokesperson said.

“We’d like to thank emergency services for their timely response and will continue assisting police as required.”

The woman from Ravenhall has since been charged with intentionally causing injury and recklessly causing injury.

She is scheduled to appear before Bairnsdale Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

A number of witnesses have spoken to police already.

Anyone who saw anything has been urged to contact Bairnsdale Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
