A 79-year-old man is dead following a collision in northern NSW on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to the Newell Hwy at Boggabilla about 4pm following reports a truck had collided with a car towing a caravan.

The driver of the car died at the scene while his 75-year-old female passenger was treated before being taken to Moree Hospital in a serious condition.

The truck driver — a 41-year-old man — escaped uninjured but was taken to Goondiwindi Hospital for mandatory testing.
