After weathering more floods than most can remember, a beloved tourist spot has been demolished.

On Monday the iconic Curtis Falls Cafe, nestled beside a waterfall on Tamborine Mountain, was demolished, ending decades of history after surviving four major floods in five years.

Cyclone Alfred dealt the final blow, flooding the cafe once again and leaving it badly damaged.

Archive footage shows raging floodwaters tearing through the cafe in the Gold Coast hinterland — a scene all too familiar to locals, visitors, and news bulletins.

The plans include a brand new cafe, two retail shops, an ice cream parlour, and two residential dwellings with five bedrooms in total.
