A 36-year-old driver was killed just days after a woman died.

A passenger killed in a hit-and-run has become the second person to die on the same road within days.

The 36-year-old man was in a car with two others when it collided with a second car on Kirkland Rd at Durack, in the north of Darwin’s satellite city Palmerston, about 5pm on Friday.

The second car involved fled the scene where the 36-year-old man was declared dead.

The 35-year-old man and the 80-year-old man in the car with the victim were hospitalised in a stable conditions.

“Sadly our members have now been on scene to the second fatal on Kirkland Rd within two days,” NT Police Detective Sergeant Richard Musgrave said.

“That is now two families who have lost a loved one.”

A woman was also killed on Durak Rd on Wednesday, and occupants of both vehicles involved in the two-car crash had to be cut from the wreckage by emergency services.

They all suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including suspected internal bleeding and limb fractures.

The woman killed in the crash on Wednesday was the 12th person to lose their life on NT roads this year and the 36-year-old man was the 15th.

Charges have now been laid over the hit-and-run crash on Friday.

A 38-year-old man was arrested without incident on Saturday and has been charged with seven offences including careless driving causing death, hit and run causing death and driving while disqualified.

He is set to face Darwin Local Court on July 16.
