In a move that has blindsided millions of users, popular Australian cash back platform Cashrewards has shut down without warning, bringing its services to an end after more than a decade in the market.
The app, which operated for 11 years, worked by giving users cash back incentives when they made purchases through affiliated retailers.
Retailers paid Cashrewards a commission for directing traffic to their sites, which was then partially passed on to users as cash back.

Users previously joined the program free of charge and could earn rewards by shopping through the Cashrewards website, mobile app, or browser extension.
But on Monday, the company notified customers it was shutting everything down — withdrawing all available offers from its website, app, and browser-based Notifier extension.
In addition, any gift cards stored in users’ digital wallets within the app are now inaccessible.
Users are advised to retrieve their gift card details via the original confirmation email received at the time of purchase.

Cashrewards has confirmed that all unused gift cards will be honoured, despite the platform’s abrupt and permanent shutdown.
Pending cashback transactions made up to September 11 may still be approved or declined in line with standard processing procedures. However, no new cashback will be offered beyond that date.
Users have been advised to withdraw any earned cashback funds by October 24, 2025. After this deadline, all transactions will need to be processed manually through the Cashrewards help desk portal or via email correspondence with customer support.
The company has not provided an official explanation for its sudden closure.
Founded in 2014 by Andrew and Lorica Clarke, Cashrewards was inspired by the couple’s personal experience with the Starlight Foundation following their son’s recovery from a serious illness.
According to Power Retail, the platform grew to become a market leader in Australia, amassing a user base of more than two million members and offering cashback deals from more than 2,000 local and international retailers, including Apple, Myer, THE ICONIC, Adidas, Bonds, and Booking.com.
Cashrewards claims to have generated over $4 billion in sales for its retail partners and delivered $165 million in cashback savings to its members. The company also contributed more than $1.9 million to the Starlight Foundation during its operation.
