Major update after synagogue terror attack

A second person has now been charged in relation to a synagogue terrorist attack last year.

The 21-year-old Werribee man was accused of arson that severely damaged the Adass Israel Synagogue at Ripponlea, in Melbourne’s inner southeast, in December 2024.

“The man is one of three individuals who broke into the Ripponlea synagogue and set the fire,” Victoria Police allege.

Seven search warrants were executed across Point Cook, Toorak, Airport West, Hadfield, Werribee, Weir Views, and Coburg on Wednesday.

Various items, including electronic devices, were seized and will be forensically examined, police said.

The latest arrest comes two weeks after the first arrest related to the incident.

However, the man arrested on July 16 is not accused of the arson attack itself, but of stealing a communal crime car, which was allegedly used to drive to the synagogue on the day of the attack.

“We now have charged two people as part of this investigation and I expect there will be more to come,” Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Wendy Steendam said.

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush said the “gravity of this crime has not been lessened by time”.

“This crime was despicable as it was dangerous, and it is important to acknowledge that this was not just an arson on a synagogue.

“The effect of this crime has rippled through a community that continues to be targeted by criminals.”

Cop charged with faking investigation document

A police officer has been accused of filing a fake document during a criminal investigation.

The 36-year-old woman, a senior constable with NSW Police, falsified a “brief service receipt,” police said on Tuesday.

When police serve a brief of evidence on the defence for a court matter, they obtain a receipt — this is what had been allegedly falsified.

The officer was attached to a specialist command in the Central Metropolitan Region, but her employment status is now under review.

The investigation into the alleged false document began in March, NSW Police said.

The woman was charged on Tuesday with use false document to influence exercise of public duty.

She was issued a court summons, and is set to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on September 10.

Potential human remains found near caravan park

An investigation is underway after potential human remains were found in Victoria.

The unsettling discovery was made near Apex RiverBeach Holiday Park, on the Murray River at Mildura, right against the NSW border, about 5.30pm on Monday.

“A man walking along the river’s edge found the bone partially buried,” NSW Police said.

The discovery appeared to be the “partial remains of a skull”, the ABC reported.

Barrier Police District Inspector Wayne Demery told the outlet that early evidence indicates the remains are “not historic”.

www.20304050.best was unable to confirm this directly with NSW Police, as the bone has now been sent for forensic testing.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation is ongoing.
